Granite
is a natural stone that was once magma - molten rock - which
formed deep within the earth. Over time, the rock cooled
and became solid.
Granite comes in many color combinations and patterns.
The look of the stone is determined by many factors, including
the mineral content and the rate of cooling. Sometimes the
magma moved and shifted while cooling, creating granite
with striations or swirls called “movement”
and “direction.” The movement, direction and
color combinations in granite are unique. Some granites
are subtle. Others are bold. There are granites available
for every taste.
Brazil, India and China are the largest granite producers,
but granite is found all over the world. Granite is quarried
from the ground in large blocks. The blocks are then shipped
to slab factories where they are cut to size and polished.
Granite slabs are usually 5 to 6 feet tall and 9 to 10 feet
wide. |
